Skills for Success

I’ve been working on recording the outline for Session 1 in the Simple Blog Course that will be out for the public and I can’t help but be encouraged just going over it all again. And again. And again. (Ever try recording a video without making any speaking errors?) Well, anyways, we can all use reminders about some soft skills that are the basics for success. I want to note that success is highly subjective. What I consider being a success could vary a great deal to what you would consider success. So, keep that in mind. However, there are timeless sticking points that never grow old, that always work.

Here are just a few…

~The skill of flexibility. Adaptability. Being able to learn new things. Rolling with the changes. Why do we struggle so hard with changes? It can be painful. Even good changes. A strange phenomenon. The skill of never giving up. Now, there might be something we tried and knew almost right away that it was not for us. That’s okay. But not giving up on things that we have a conviction to do. Things we long dream of doing. May we never give up!

~The skill of emotional intelligence. Relating to others. Caring about others and being genuine about it. Also, being self-aware. Do we listen more than we speak? Do we dominate a conversation? Skills we can work at every day.

~The skill of communication. Effective verbal (and nonverbal) communication. Maybe this one should be first. How we speak to others matters. What we speak to others matters. And body language is a whole language unto itself. Most fascinating topic. (Have you ever watched Lie to Me? Love that series!)

~ The skill of integrity. This is something, I don’t believe, we are born with. It’s a skill. It’s something we are faced with over and over in life. Something we can always work on, like all skills. Honesty and being fair in life in relation to others is the only way to live. In creating my course, Simple Blog Course, I saw how others were selling these courses that really didn’t teach what they said they would teach. I saw many false claims. I knew that while I created my course, I wanted to be honest with people and really give them value for what they were buying. I wanted to feel right about it. A very important conviction for me. Integrity cannot be bought. And you shouldn’t sell yours.

~The skill of focus. We all lose our focus sometimes. It happens. But it ties in with flexibility. We need to readjust. Refocus. Keep our concentration and attention on what we are aiming for. What are you aiming for? The skill of focus is critical.

There are many more soft skills. These are just my starters.
