Clearing the Clutter: Why I Narrowed My Blog to Books and Writing
“Simplify, simplify, simplify!”
Henry David Thoreau
When I first started blogging, I wrote about everything. Family updates, recipes, random thoughts, little projects—I had posts scattered in every direction. At the time, it felt right. Blogging was an outlet, and I wanted to capture all the pieces of life.
But as I scrolled back through those old posts recently, I realized they no longer fit the kind of space I want this blog to be. Instead of feeling inspired, I felt distracted. The clutter made it harder for readers (and for me) to see the heart of what I truly love: books and writing.
So, I made a choice. I decluttered my blog. I archived posts that didn’t connect with my vision anymore and narrowed my focus. It wasn’t easy—there were a couple funny entries that I had fun writing—but it was freeing. Ahh, that old saying, “In writing, you must kill all your darlings.”
Now, instead of being “all over the place,” this blog has a clearer voice (even if I have to rebuild my blog library.) Every post points in the same direction: encouraging writers, sharing bookish reflections, and building a space that inspires creativity.
Sometimes the best step forward isn’t adding more—it’s letting go of what doesn’t fit anymore.
What’s Next for the Blog?
Now that the clutter is gone, I feel like I have room to breathe—and create. My vision for this space is simple: to make it a home for readers and writers.
You can expect to see:
Behind-the-scenes of what I’m writing & reading – updates on my own projects, lessons I’m learning, and the messiness of my creative process.
Practical tips for writers – encouragement and strategies that help you actually sit down and do the work.
Bookish reflections – not just reviews, but thoughts on the books shaping me as a writer and a reader.
I want this blog to feel like pulling up a chair at a cozy table—where we can talk about words, stories, and the joy (and sometimes struggle) of creating.
